Overview
Registered in 1988 by R. Savory, this large hosta cultivar is a cross between *Hosta* 'Green Gold' and *Hosta* 'Halcyon'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green foliage with broad, blue-green margins and rounded leaf bases, forming a substantial mound.
In the Garden
'Edge of Night' reaches a mature size of approximately 48 inches (122 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61 cm) in height, making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in shaded borders. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green coloration remains most intense, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large leaves and substantial habit make it less suited for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
