Overview
Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Solar Flare', 'Eclipse' is a giant-sized cultivar distinguished by its large, blue-green leaves with wide, golden yellow, heavily rippled margins. The leaf surface carries a glaucous bloom on both sides, and the margins are notably non-scorching, a practical advantage for a gold-edged blue hosta of this size.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 62 inches (157.5 cm) and height of 28 inches (71.1 cm), 'Eclipse' functions as a bold specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its upright, moderate growth rate and deeply wavy, corrugated leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The 37- to 38-inch scapes bear medium green flowers typical of the genus.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this large-leaved cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
