Overview
Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Echoes' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Reptillian'* and *H. 'Elvis Lives'*. Its most distinctive features are the heavily rippled leaf margins and the pronounced glaucous bloom that coats both the upper and lower surfaces of the blue-green foliage.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height. The ovate leaves with cordate bases measure 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, bearing 7 to 8 vein pairs and exhibiting moderate waviness along the margins. Green scapes rise 24 to 26 inches (61.0 to 66.0 cm) above the foliage. 'Echoes' performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green coloration and glaucous coating are most pronounced. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a textural accent among ferns and other shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, particularly in shaded, moist garden settings.
