Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Eagle Spirit' is a small hosta cultivar derived from an open-pollinated seedling of 'Bravo', with its pollen parent unknown. It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with creamy white margins and strong contrast between center and edge, a characteristic that intensifies in late summer.
In the Garden
'Eagle Spirit' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited for small gardens, rockeries, or front-of-border positions. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation or as an edging plant alongside other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Eagle Spirit' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
