Overview
Registered in 2006, 'Eagle Creek Woods' is a sport of a splashed seedling of unknown parentage. This large hosta is visually distinctive for its upright habit and golden yellow leaves edged with creamy white margins, producing larger leaves than is typical for this color combination.
In the Garden
' Eagle Creek Woods' reaches a mature diameter of 42 inches (107 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61 cm), with an upright, moderately growing form. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the yellow leaf centers hold their color without scorching. This cultivar pairs well with dark-leaved heucheras or ferns that contrast with its bright foliage; its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for slugs on the broad leaves and consider fencing or repellents where deer are prevalent.
