Overview
Registered in 1988 by D. Stone and P. Ruh, this small hosta cultivar produces dark green leaves with pure white margins. The foliage is lanceolate, measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, with six vein pairs. The plant forms a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) in both height and diameter.
In the Garden
'Hosta' 'Dustin' performs best in partial to full shade, where its white-edged leaves remain crisp and well-defined. At 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and wide, it suits the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container culture. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera* cultivars, or other miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly to establish, then maintain consistent moisture during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed.
