Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Dust Devil' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Whirlwind' that produces a medium-sized mound of blue-green leaves with creamy white margins. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its broad, rounded leaves with a slightly shiny upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, contrasting with a wide, creamy white border approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) across.
In the Garden
'Dust Devil' forms a symmetrical mound 23 inches (58.4 cm) tall and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, with leaves 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers retain their color and the white margins remain crisp. This medium-sized hosta pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials, and its rounded habit makes it suitable for border fronts or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Dust Devil' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
