Overview

Registered in 2012 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Duane's Song' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its lance-shaped green leaves with golden yellow margins and notably red petioles. The foliage is very shiny on both surfaces, with lightly wavy and lightly corrugated texture, and the leaf base is tapered.

In the Garden

'Duane's Song' forms a compact mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. As a miniature hosta, it is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where the red petioles and golden margins can be appreciated up close. Companion plants may include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, miniature forms like 'Duane's Song' may require additional protection from these pests in the garden.
