Overview
Registered in 2004 from unknown parentage, 'Dressed in Green' is a small hosta distinguished by its heavily rippled, medium green leaves with prominent wavy margins. The cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump and produces purple scapes in summer.
In the Garden
This compact hosta reaches 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and spreads to 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of the genus, and pairs well with other small woodland perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature astilbes. The intense leaf waviness and heavy substance provide visual interest even when not in flower.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, especially on the heavily textured leaf surfaces.
