Overview
Registered in 1996 by B. Ruetenik, this large sport of *Hosta* 'Great Expectations' is distinguished by its broad, pure white leaf centers framed by intensely blue-green margins. The leaves measure 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide, with 12 to 14 vein pairs, and exhibit a dull upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
Mature plants form a mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green margins retain their color and the white centers do not scorch. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its large size makes it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
