Overview

Registered in 1994, 'Drawn Butter' is a small hosta cultivar derived from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Whoopie'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves edged with greenish gold, slightly rippled margins, and a very shiny underside that contrasts with the slightly shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

'Drawn Butter' reaches a mature spread of approximately 25 inches (63.5 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), with an open, semi-upright habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, front-of-border placements, or container cultivation. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials complement its compact form.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Drawn Butter' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
