| Section class | I-1 |
Overview
Registered in 1996, this giant variegated hosta resulted from a cross between *Hosta montana* (pod parent) and *H. 'Fortunei'* (pollen parent). 'Dragon Wings' is distinguished by its exceptionally large, heavily rippled leaves that are long, pointed, and arching with a distinctive pinched tip, reaching 18 inches in length and 11 inches in width.
In the Garden
'Dragon Wings' forms a substantial, semi-upright clump reaching 60 inches in diameter and 24 inches in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade, where its medium green, heavily rippled leaf margins and slight sheen on both surfaces are most apparent. The tall scapes, reaching 54 to 62 inches, bear green flowers. This cultivar's large size makes it appropriate as a specimen or for the back of a shaded border; it is not suitable for containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Dragon Wings' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
