Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, this miniature hosta forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter. Its lanceolate leaves, measuring 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) long and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, are blue-green with golden yellow margins and feature heavy rippling along the edges; the upper surface is shiny, while the underside bears a shiny glaucous bloom. The scape, yellow to chartreuse, rises up to 17 inches (43.2 cm) high.
In the Garden
'Dragon Tails' performs best in partial to light shade, where its blue-green centers and gold margins maintain good contrast. Its compact size and fast growth make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. It combines well with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or low-growing shade perennials, and is an excellent candidate for containers or troughs.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in areas with high slug or deer pressure.
