Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Doublemint' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Herb Benedict'* and the species *H. hypoleuca*. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with white margins that are heavily streaked with shades of yellow, from pale to golden, creating a mint-like coloration across the foliage.
In the Garden
'Doublemint' reaches a mature size of approximately 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height, with an upright growth habit and slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large, broadly ovate leaves with moderate corrugation provide substantial textural contrast. This cultivar pairs well with other shade perennials such as ferns or astilbes, and its size makes it suitable for mid-border positions rather than containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Doublemint' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
