Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, *Hosta* 'Dorothy's Brass Band' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, heavily textured leaves with green centers and flat golden yellow margins. The foliage is moderately corrugated, lightly cupped and folded, with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside.

In the Garden

'Dorothy's Brass Band' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for gold-margined hostas, where the leaf coloration remains stable. The bold, puckered leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with fine-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring standard protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
