Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, 'Don Juan' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Don Stevens'. This small cultivar is visually defined by its elliptic, shiny green leaves with irregular white margins, each leaf measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, with 5 to 6 vein pairs and a lightly cupped, wavy form.
In the Garden
'Don Juan' forms a compact, mound-like clump 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or other diminutive perennials that share its light requirements. Its small stature and tidy habit also make it an appropriate choice for trough gardens or miniature hosta collections.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Don Juan' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in vulnerable gardens.
