Overview
Registered in 2007, 'Do Wop' is a small hosta cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta* 'Fragrant Blue' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Halcyon' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, ovate leaves with flat margins, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and a compact, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Do Wop' forms a dense mound 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) tall and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is best preserved. Its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer some resistance to slugs, though standard hosta care against deer browsing remains advisable in areas where deer are present.
