Overview
Registered in 1982 by R. Savory, this small hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta nakaiana*. It forms a compact, variegated mound with medium green leaves that display slight undulations along the margins.
In the Garden
Reaching 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and spreading to 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, 'Dixie Queen' is well-suited for the front of a shaded border or rock garden. Its small stature and 5-inch (12.7 cm) leaves with six vein pairs make it an appropriate choice for container cultivation. It pairs effectively with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
