Overview

Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Fair Maiden', 'Dixie Pixie' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow, heavily rippled white margins. The broadly ovate, moderately cupped leaves measure 3 inches (7.6 cm) long by 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, with six vein pairs and dull surfaces above and below.

In the Garden

'Dixie Pixie' reaches a mature diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 5 inches (12.7 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its compact size makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plantings of small ferns or woodland ephemerals such as *Tiarella* or *Heucherella* complement its muted coloration.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain even soil moisture; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Dixie Pixie' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
