Year registered1999
Section classV-4b

Overview

Registered in 1999, this miniature hosta resulted from a cross between *H.* 'Masquerade' and *H.* 'Invincible'. 'Dixie Chick' forms a compact mound of medium green leaves edged in creamy white, with the margins measuring approximately 0.16 inches (0.4 cm) wide and displaying a slight ripple. The leaf surface is notably glossy, and the overall effect is a tidy, brightly variegated clump suited to small-scale garden spaces.

In the Garden

With a mature diameter of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and height of 4 inches (10.2 cm), 'Dixie Chick' is well suited for the front of a border, rock gardens, or trough plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for variegated hostas, and its fast growth rate allows it to fill in quickly. The small stature and refined variegation make it an excellent candidate for containers or as an edging plant alongside fine-textured companions such as ferns or miniature sedges.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitor regularly and employ barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
