Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Dimpled Chad' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Sea Prize' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its deeply corrugated, moderately cupped leaves of dark bluish green, each bearing a flat margin of greenish gold and yellow, and for the dimpled surface texture that gives the cultivar its name.
In the Garden
'Dimpled Chad' forms an upright clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color and gold margins are most pronounced. The substantial, cupped leaves pair well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and the plant is suitable for the middle of a mixed border or as a specimen in a woodland garden.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, though the thick leaf substance offers some resistance.
