Overview
Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Diamonds Are Forever' is a small-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Diamond Tiara'. It is distinguished by its extra-wide white leaf margins, which contrast sharply with the medium green leaf centers. This cultivar forms a compact, fast-growing mound.
In the Garden
The small, mound-like habit of *Hosta* 'Diamonds Are Forever' reaches approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter. Its broadly ovate leaves, with a rounded base and flat margins, measure 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long by 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) wide. The leaf surface is dull on top and slightly shiny beneath, with 6 to 7 pairs of veins. The wide, pure white margins provide strong contrast, making this cultivar suitable for edging borders, rock gardens, or front-of-bed placements where its variegation can be appreciated. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins are less prone to scorching. Companion plants with contrasting foliage, such as ferns or dark-leaved heucheras, complement its bright variegation. The green scapes rise 16 to 22 inches (40.6 to 55.9 cm) above the foliage.
Care Notes
*Hosta* 'Diamonds Are Forever' benefits from consistent moisture and well-drained, organically rich soil. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its smaller stature may make protective measures more manageable. It is hardy in typical hosta growing zones and requires minimal division to maintain vigor.
