Overview
Registered in 2002, *Hosta* 'Diadem' is a sport of *Hosta* 'King Tut' distinguished by its small, mound-like habit and dark green leaves with narrow, flat golden yellow margins. The leaf margins measure 0.25 to 0.5 inches (0.6 to 1.3 cm) wide, providing a crisp contrast against the dark green blade.
In the Garden
'Diadem' reaches a mature diameter of 16 inches (40.6 cm) and a height of 7 inches (17.8 cm), forming a compact, slow-growing mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or small-scale woodland plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small cultivars or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras. Its small size also makes it appropriate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable, as with most hostas.
