Overview

Registered in 2007 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Angel', 'Devil's Advocate' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaf centers framed by light green margins. The leaves measure up to 18 inches (45.7 cm) in length and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in width, with 16 pairs of veins and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Devil's Advocate' forms a substantial mound 36 inches (91.4 cm) tall and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in shaded borders and woodland gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is preserved. Its large scale pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; container cultivation is impractical due to its size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
