Overview
Registered in 2009 by R. Livingston, *Hosta* 'Devastator' is a small-sized cultivar derived from open pollination of *H. 'Invincible'*. It is visually distinctive for its bright yellow, rippled leaf margins contrasting with a green center, combined with horizontally spreading petioles that become pronounced in August.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for container cultivation or the front of a shaded border. Companion plants might include ferns, *Heuchera*, or small woodland perennials that complement its gold-margined foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
