Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Heart and Soul', 'Derriere' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, corrugated leaves with green, slightly rippled margins and dull surface texture. The foliage is variegated, though the leaves are described as more cute than attractive, and the plant spreads with age.
In the Garden
'Derriere' reaches a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), forming a compact, fast-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small woodland perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its small size makes it suitable for troughs, containers, or the front of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Derriere' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for these pests and take appropriate control measures.
