Overview
Registered in 1999 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Deluxe Edition' is a large, upright cultivar distinguished by its variegated foliage: dark green, slightly rippled margins frame a lighter leaf center, with a slightly shiny surface on both sides. Its substantial dimensions—reaching 55 inches (139.7 cm) in diameter and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height—and moderate growth rate make it a prominent specimen in the hosta collection.
In the Garden
'Deluxe Edition' performs best in partial to full shade, where its dark green margins and cordate leaf bases are most pronounced. At mature size, it forms a broad, upright clump suitable as a focal point in shaded borders or woodland gardens; its large leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes, rising 42 to 48 inches (106.7 to 121.9 cm) above the foliage, bear typical lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Deluxe Edition' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and protective measures are recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
