Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Delta Dawn' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a variegated seedling pod parent and a sibling of *H. 'Aztec Treasure'* as the pollen parent. Its distinctive foliage features light green to chartreuse leaves with creamy white, slightly rippled margins that vary in width from 0.25 to 1 inch (0.6 to 2.5 cm).
In the Garden
'Delta Dawn' reaches a mature spread of 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), with a semi-upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. The broadly ovate, slightly corrugated leaves with cordate bases provide textural contrast when paired with ferns or fine-leaved perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
