Overview
Registered in 1978 by P. Aden, this medium-sized cultivar resulted from a cross between *H.* 'Wahoo' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Flamboyant' (pollen parent). 'Debutante' is visually distinguished by its variegated foliage, featuring leaves with broad, irregular margins of contrasting color against a darker center.
In the Garden
'Debutante' forms a clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter at maturity. Its medium size and variegated leaves make it suitable for partially shaded to shaded border positions, where it pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant is also appropriate for container cultivation in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through routine monitoring or protective measures.
