Overview

Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Dazzling' is a giant cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Dorothy Benedict' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Maekawa' (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its large, ovate, blue-green leaves with heavily rippled white margins, further ornamented by irregular streaks of dark green, medium green, greenish yellow, yellow, pale yellow, and creamy tones.

In the Garden

This slow-growing giant reaches 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter at maturity, with scapes rising 39 to 42 inches (99.1 to 106.7 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous bloom and multicolored streaks are most pronounced. Its substantial, deeply corrugated leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast in texture and form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, good-substance leaves offer moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions.
