Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Day's End' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Daybreak' and is classified as a giant cultivar. It is visually distinctive for its large, blue-green leaves with narrow, golden yellow margins and a heavy, glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Day's End' grows to a mature size of 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height and 70 inches (177.8 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its substantial leaves make it a strong specimen or background plant in woodland gardens. Its large size and bold foliage pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs and deer may occasionally feed on the foliage, the thick, glaucous leaves offer some resistance compared to thinner-leaved cultivars.
