Overview
Registered in 2000 as a sport of an unidentified parent, *Hosta* 'Dawn Treader' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins. The foliage measures 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with nine pairs of veins, a cordate base, and flat margins; the leaf surface is slightly shiny above and below, with a pale yellow-greenish yellow coloration.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with scapes reaching 15 to 16 inches (38.1 to 40.6 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or mixed containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad leaves are susceptible to both pests.
