Overview
Registered in 2000 by S. Bond, this miniature hosta forms compact clumps of green leaves with flat yellow margins. The foliage measures 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) long by 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide, with four vein pairs, a dull upper surface, and a slightly shiny underside. The leaf base is rounded.
In the Garden
'Hosta' Dawn' reaches a mature height of 12 to 15 inches (30.5 to 38.1 cm) in scape, with foliage remaining low and compact. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and its small size makes it well suited for troughs, containers, or the front of a shaded border. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas that share similar light and moisture requirements.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, particularly in damp conditions.
