Hosta ‘Dave’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2011
Section classIV-5a

Overview

Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Delight', 'Dave' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with golden yellow chartreuse margins. The broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves exhibit a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, with lightly rippled, slightly corrugated margins and twelve vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Dave' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its unique leaf coloration remains most pronounced. Its small stature makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as foliage is susceptible to both pests.
