Year registered1999
Section classII-7

Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Dapper Jim' is a large, upright hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Little Jim'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green foliage with dark green, slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside, complemented by tall, glaucous green scapes with white streaks.

In the Garden

'Dapper Jim' reaches a mature diameter of 38 inches (96.5 cm) and a height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), with scapes extending 43 to 48 inches (109.2 to 121.9 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its upright habit makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its large size precludes container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Dapper Jim' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
