Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, 'Dana Nicolette' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaves with a heavy glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The broadly ovate to near-round leaves are moderately cupped and corrugated, with 10 to 11 vein pairs and a cordate base.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a semi-upright to mounded clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains its color intensity. The medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact habit also suits container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as the foliage is palatable to both pests.
