Overview
Registered in 1984 by C. Tompkins, 'Cynthia' is a giant variegated hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of streaked, ruffled leaf margins and a cordate leaf base, with leaves reaching 13 inches (33.0 cm) in length and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in width.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial mound 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height, making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in partial to full shade. Its large, textured leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The scapes rise 30 to 34 inches (76.2 to 86.4 cm) high, bearing flowers typical of the genus.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through standard cultural or physical controls.
