Overview
Registered in 2005 by an unknown breeder, 'Cyclops' is a giant hosta cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, nearly round leaves that grow upright. The leaves reach 20 inches (50.8 cm) in length and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in width, with 12 vein pairs and deeply corrugated, slightly shiny surfaces.
In the Garden
'Cyclops' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, where its upright growth habit and substantial foliage create a bold structural presence. Mature plants form a large clump suitable for the back of a shaded border or as a specimen planting. Pair with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras to contrast its broad, corrugated leaves.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves show moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures may still be warranted in damp conditions.
