Overview
Registered in 1999 by R. Benedict and H. Gowen, *Hosta* 'Cutting Edge' is a large hybrid derived from *H.* 'Salute' (seed parent) and *H. pycnophylla* (pollen parent). The cultivar is distinguished by its broad, cordate blue-green leaves with medium blue-green margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside.
In the Garden
'Cutting Edge' reaches a mature height of 22 inches (55.9 cm) and a spread of 27 inches (68.6 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its substantial leaf size pairs well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur in garden settings.
