Overview
Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Grand Tiara', 'Crystal Tiara' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white to pale yellow margins. The leaves measure 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in length and 3 inches (7.6 cm) in width, with rounded bases and dull surfaces on both sides.
In the Garden
This compact hosta reaches a mature size of approximately 8 to 10 inches in height and 12 to 18 inches in spread, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. Its small stature and tidy habit also suit container plantings. 'Crystal Tiara' performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains most vibrant, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and small woodland plants.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain evenly moist soil, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
