Overview
Registered in 1987 by H. Ross and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Crown Prince' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with white margins, a subtle sheen on the upper surface, and occasional undulations along the leaf edges.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), 'Crown Prince' is well-suited for the front of a shaded border or as an edging plant. Its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. It pairs effectively with other small woodland perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera* in partial to full shade.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
