Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Tiny Tears' registered in 2003, 'Croutons' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with streaked green and creamy white flat margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) long and 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide, display a dull upper surface and slightly shiny underside, with 4 to 5 vein pairs and a lightly wavy margin.
In the Garden
'Croutons' forms a compact mound 4 inches (10.2 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, with moderate growth rate, and pairs well with other miniature hostas or small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its diminutive size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Croutons' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
