Overview

Registered in 2003, 'Crossroads Steve' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its vase-shaped habit, blue-green leaves with pale yellow, heavily rippled margins, and a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, feature 10 to 11 vein pairs and a moderately wavy edge.

In the Garden

'Crossroads Steve' reaches a mature diameter of 24 inches (61.0 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48.3 cm), with an upright, slow-growing habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, where the leaf coloration remains truest. Its compact, vase-shaped form pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not recommended for container culture due to its medium size.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, applying water at the base to avoid wetting the foliage. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
