Overview
Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Crossroads Budgie' is a small, compact cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'William Lachman' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its heavy-substance, broadly ovate leaves of blue-green with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides, forming a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches approximately 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved cultivars, where its leaf color remains truest. Its compact size and heavy substance make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its heavy leaf substance may offer some resistance.
