Overview
Registered in 1992 by W. Zumbar and registrant P. Ruh, 'Cross Stitch' is a giant variegated hosta distinguished by its large, cordate leaves with light green, slightly rippled margins, a satiny upper surface, and a glossy underside. The leaf blade measures 14 inches (35.6 cm) in length and 10.25 inches (26.0 cm) in width, with 10 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Cross Stitch' reaches a mature diameter of 37 inches (94.0 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in partial to full shade. Its substantial size pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, variegated foliage. Not recommended for container cultivation due to its giant stature.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
