Overview
Registered in 2000 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Crocodile Rock' is a small-sized variegated cultivar distinguished by its light green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny surface on both sides. The leaf blade measures 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, with eight pairs of veins and a rounded base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact, fast-growing mound reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for container cultivation, rock gardens, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants might include ferns, *Heuchera*, or other small shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Crocodile Rock' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
