Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Crinkles' is a large cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Fantastic' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is extreme, asymmetrical crinkling of the leaf blade, resulting in little to no symmetry from one leaf to another; the leaves are green with greenish-yellow flat margins, nearly round with a cordate base, and are intensely twisted, folded, and corrugated.
In the Garden
'Hosta' 'Crinkles' forms a mound-like clump reaching 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height, with a slow to medium growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its bold, textured foliage. Its large size makes it appropriate as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage leaves, so monitor and manage as needed.
