Overview
Registered in 1971 by E. Fisher, *Hosta* 'Crinkle Cup' is a medium-sized hybrid distinguished by its green leaves with bright yellow margins and a distinctive cupped, crinkled leaf texture. The foliage reaches 8 inches (20.3 cm) in length and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in width, with 8 to 9 pairs of veins, while the plant forms a clump 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where its gold margins remain most vivid; excessive sun may cause marginal bleaching. At maturity, it forms a mounded clump roughly 2 feet across and 1 foot tall, making it suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. It pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its medium size allows for use in larger containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
