Section classV-1

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Jiminy Cricket', 'Cricket' was registered in 2010 and is a miniature variegated cultivar distinguished by its small, heavily rippled leaves with medium green margins and a dull upper surface. The plant forms a compact, mound-like habit reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, with ovate leaves that have cordate bases and wavy edges.

In the Garden

'Cricket' is suited for partial to full shade, as typical for variegated hostas, and performs best in moist, well-drained soil. Its miniature size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, container plantings, or the front of shaded borders, where it can be paired with small ferns, heucheras, or other diminutive perennials. The plant has a moderate growth rate and reaches a mature spread of roughly 17 inches (43 cm).

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, 'Cricket' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small size and good leaf substance offer some resilience.
