Overview

Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Crescendo' is a large, upright cultivar derived from *H. 'Sagae'* (pod parent) with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely twisted, wavy, and corrugated blue-green leaves with heavily rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and heavy substance that creates a puckered, waffled texture.

In the Garden

'Crescendo' reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and height of 19 inches (48.3 cm), with scapes extending 27 to 40 inches (68.6 to 101.6 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous bloom remains most pronounced. Its substantial leaf texture pairs well with fine-textured ferns or broad-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* or *Astilbe*; it is not suited for container cultivation due to its large size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. The heavy substance offers moderate slug and deer resistance, though monitoring may still be necessary in high-pressure areas.
